My classroom theme is "Adventure Awaits". I want the students to know that outside of our little city, there is a big world out there with so many fun things to experience. Our Fourth Graders have an amazing grant funded three-season field trip where we hike Mt. Jo (small mountain in the Adirondacks), snowshoe around Heart Lake, and go back to the area in the Spring to learn map skills. Many students have never had the opportunity to explore beyond our town, have never been camping, never experienced the wilderness, or even been in a tent!
I have chosen these four Field & Stream Wilderness Lodge 3 Person Tents because I want them to have a fun place to read. I want them to go from "having to read" to "wanting to read". I have some reluctant readers in my classroom and reading in a tent with a just-right-book and a flashlight would be fun.
The University of Salford’s well publicized study shows that the classroom environment can affect pupil’s learning and academic progress by as much as 25%. So, if our learning environment celebrates reading, I am hoping that my pupil's learning will progress as well!
