These supplies will allow me to continue doing the interactive notebooks in all of my mathematics classes. These supplies are used daily in all classes, allowing students to interact with mathematics and to personalize their notebooks, as well as build a book of learning mathematics that many take with them after graduation. A former student of mine used her notebook to survive her first year of mathematics at UCLA while she worked towards her pre-med degree. The notebook has progressed from the time I had Elena in class, till now where we try to do notes and proofs from online, giving us more time to really discuss mathematics and problem solving, reaching a broader range of student learners.
This notebook empowers the student to personalize their notebook in a manner that fits their personal learning style and this is why you are seeing tape and glue sticks from a math teacher. It allows my students to keep their notebooks organized and to do activities that engage both sides of the brain leading to deeper retention of mathematics. The supplies, coupled with a blended learning approach, allow us to not only have notes, but foldables in class and spend more time working mathematics problems that have given many of my former students difficulties. My hope is to continue implementing this approach and adding on to it in the following years.
