In first grade, students are so excited to learn to read. One of the biggest ways to help kids improve their literacy skills is to practice reading at their level. I created take-home book bags using the Ziploc bags for my students to take home and read to their families.
They are so excited to choose a new book to exchange to read each night. They also get stickers for returning the books which help with encouragement and responsibility. Most of the books I am able to give them are simple readers that have sight words and simple phonics patterns. I would love to offer them more of these books to take home to borrow and grow in their love for reading.
