I teach World History and Government in a large suburban high school south of Salt Lake City, Utah. My students are actively involved in community activities including athletics, the arts, clubs, church work, and volunteering. Students come from a variety of financial backgrounds, and some need to work in order to pay school fees and gas for their car while others just focus on their activities.
I have an active classroom where learning goes beyond powerpoint presentations. Student engagement is key, and we participate in different simulations through the school year. Students also decide what big topics to discuss - including immigration, genocide, and terrorism.
