It's no secret that we want our children to be excited to read books. The ability to possess an appealing and up-to-date classroom library can make or break a student's motivation to read and hence, learn. Children need appealing, leveled books in order to read at their just right independent level and continue to advance in their learning.
A donation of books for my First Graders will not only assist in increasing student motivation to read, but will ultimately provide the opportunity to increase the academic achievement for all of the students. First Grade is the school year that students are expected to increase their reading achievement by leaps and bounds. The decoding, accuracy, fluency and comprehension expectations are high. If a student succeeds with the core reading skills in this school year, it is highly likely that their future academic careers will be on the road to success.
