During pandemic times students stopped reading at home. My students are primarily from low income families who have limited access to books. Throughout the pandemic they were denied exposure to school and libraries. They were offered some digital text sources, but now they have lost their desire to hold and read a book for fun. I am struggling to get my students to remember their love of reading. I do a lot of reading in class with them but need to get their hands on actual books that they can take home. I want them to breathe in the stories that will revitalize their love of words.
Having direct access to new books will help my students recover from their lost love of the written word.
