As a 2nd grade teacher in a title 1 district; I often have a large number of students that struggle with reading. And staying on reading level. A listening center would be a new way to expose those students (matter of fact all my students) to reading. Through listening, recalling and comprehending. Giving them ownership in hearing the story and answering questions to that story. I find multiple of my students and their families have limited resources to provide reading materials that are on their levels in their homes. This listening center would provide them more opportunities to incorporate reading in their lives.
