My classroom is comprised of students in grades K-2 with Special Needs. They are in a public school, self-contained classroom setting each day, where we focus on teaching each individual the skills they struggle with (frequently it is a grade level or two below their actual grade level). The students I teach are eager to learn and love looking at books and trying to read them even though reading extremely difficult for them. Even though my students struggle academically and socially, they are just like any other child; they are smart, funny, kind hearted, and they want to please others. Most importantly, they want to be able to escape reality sometimes and have the ability to get lost in the life and experiences of their favorite character in a book that they can read independently.
