This generation of reluctant readers takes some creativity on the part of a literacy teacher. The trick is helping those students find the right book, the book that grabs ahold of them and doesn't let go. Some of the books I've chosen, such as Wonder, Milkweed, and Fish in a Tree are stories that have characters who face everyday challenges; stories that I believe my students will be drawn to.
Having these highly-engaging, best-selling books added to our classroom library would be such a gift to my students. What better way to share the love of books! Being able to offer this treasure will give my students the opportunity to discover those books that they won't ever forget...
In the words of Garrison Keillor, "A book is a gift you can open again and again."
