Many of my 29 students come from low income households, so the classroom provides them opportunities that they wouldn't otherwise experience. Flexible seating allows my students the opportunity to choose more comfortable seats that help them to stay focused while working. Motivating students through the choice of seating is an important piece to fostering engagement. I choose to provide alternative seating that allows students to get out their wiggles, while still remaining engaged.
Collaboration is essential and fostered through close cozy seating around tables. This environment is ideal for STEM projects as students work at becoming cohesive teams while facing challenges.
My desire is to continue to offer opportunities that my students need, but don't have exposure to at home. Bringing various robots into the classroom is one way to help them learn to code and begin to develop 21st century skills.
