Students work daily with either a reading program or math program that targets their individual needs. The programs are exciting and interactive but also require students to have an intimate interaction with the iPad. In social studies, the students learn the value of video clips and peer presentations. They interact with various multimedia to meet their goals. Individual headphones will allow the student to fully engage with their personal learning opportunity.
One of the things that we are striving to teach students is independent learning. Every activity in my class, requires students to personally seek ways to individualize the lesson. This is done through giving the student the power to choose relevant videos. They may find their own tutorials to help explain new concepts. They conduct their own research in developing their own presentations. They also regularly engage in peer evaluations. All of these require the ability of the students to tune out the world around them, and submerge themselves in learning.
