To help my students learn amid the pandemic, I could really use pretend play furniture and props! These will enhance social skills, which we all are experiencing less of during the pandemic, and inspire lifelong curiosity and imagination within my little learners. To us it may just look like a sandbox, but my students may imagine it's a dinosaur excavation site or construction zone complete with orange vests! They can be veterinarians in the pretend vet clinic, carpenters in the pretend workshop, and play "house" with all the household accessories! I can't wait to see their imaginations soar!
Pretend play aids in communication skills, problem solving, cooperation, conquering fears, and trying new things. With thorough planning, these pretend play experiences will also include literacy, math, science, social studies, and social skills all while learning through play! Counting cookies, sea shells, or pet patients, unlimited writing experiences, and even drawing architectural blueprints are just a few of the options that can be utilized. My students would love to have all these different possibilities for pretend play!
