I would love to create a sanctuary at school for fourth graders. Our classroom is our "home away from home". I want to create a place where students feel at home, want to come and a place that sparks creativity. After seeing large companies like Zappos and Google have many different work spaces within their headquarters I wanted to create the same feeling within our classroom. Research has shown giving students choices of where to work not only helps with morale but also creativity. When these students enter the work force they will be fulfilling jobs that currently do not exist. I want to teach them problem solving, creativity and entrepreneurship skills while teaching math, science and reading.
I want to prepare students for a world of opportunity and invention and do not want our classroom to look or feel like a classroom from the past.
Having flexible seating would update our classroom and give students a choice of seating as well as providing a sanctuary where great learning can take place.
