I teach in an early childhood special education classroom and have children ages 3-5. I had a portable light table in my classroom that was on loan to me by another teacher and I was fortunate to use it for 3 years. I had several students in my class during that time that had visual impairments that benefited from the light table and the materials that came with it. During that time, I soon discovered countless ways that all of the children in my class could benefit from using it. The possibilities of playing and learning with a light table are endless.
My special needs preschool students will benefit from the hands on opportunities provided by the light table to enhance their literacy, math, science and fine motor skills. It will provide a multitude of sensory play and learning experiences! The learning experiences it will provide are limitless: matching, sorting, counting, letter identification, building, spacial awareness, patterns, tracing, creating, color identification, discovery, etc!
