Currently in our classroom, students do not have the luxury of alternative seating. I am always more than willing to allow them to move in a specific area when they need to get their "wiggles" out, but when I'm trying to keep track of 10 other students, that is when the classroom turns into a race track.
Having a balance ball chair and wobble chair will allow my students to let their wiggles out, while still accessing the lesson at that moment. They can bounce up and down while learning their doubles facts, and the teacher won't need to worry about getting up to redirect the student back to their area.
Each work station would have each kind of ball or wiggle chair available to meet the needs of the students who would benefit most. As their teacher, I want to maximize their instructional time, while allowing them to embrace the behaviors they exhibit.
It is okay to move, we all do it. Let us embrace the movement and accommodate them so they can be active learners, but most importantly- successful!
