Kindergarten is all about introducing young learners to the amazing world of exploration—fiction and nonfiction books, science, math, art, friendships—and we need a functional space to make that happen. We do the majority of our work whole group—allowing students to work with shoulder partners to discuss, and then explain WHY we thought a particular way. Number talks, choral readings, morning meetings, real alouds, story reenactments , and math modeling—we are a group—stretching our brains to challenge each other. A carpet that accommodates our entire class will contribute to the classroom sense of community. Plus, this particular carpet creates the opportunity for on the spot learning using the various square designs.
