Since my students face many struggles, they need to feel safe and cared for when they walk into my classroom in order to learn. A classroom rug would provide a comforting environment for my students to gather for morning meetings; students will greet one another, share stories and participate in social/emotional activities. The meeting area will also provide a cozy area for students to read independently; as well a station for working in cooperative groups. I can only imagine the rich discussions we can have as students gather on the rug to listen to books being read aloud.
