Students will have the opportunity to access indoor recess which will be more structured and calm than outdoor recess. These students often have meltdowns in unstructured environments, and indoor recess will allow them to work on social emotional skills such as communication, cooperation, sharing, deescalation techniques, and building friendships.
The materials I have chosen were suggested by my students as activities they would enjoy using either individually or in small groups. I am requesting LEGO bricks, Lincoln Logs, Play-Doh, or coloring materials.. This setting allows students to work with students in other classes and grade levels. This fosters teamwork and mentoring between students of all grade levels and creates community within our school.
