This project would provide updated technology and improved access to communication devices. For some individuals, oral speech is not an option. For these individuals, communication throughout the day becomes significantly more complicated. However, by providing access to iPads with communication applications (in addition to teacher and staff language support), many students are able to learn to access language via speech-generating applications. Once our students have been given access to communication devices, such as iPads with specialized language applications, they have the opportunity to communicate with peers, staff members, teachers, nurses, parents, and more.
When provided with an iPad, a language application, and support and teaching from a speech-language pathologist, these students have the opportunity to comment, request, make jokes, ask for help, advocate for themselves, and participate socially with their peers. The importance of this technology cannot be stressed enough.
If funded, this project would provide communication devices (iPads) for four students within Templeton Unified School District. These devices would serve as a primary point of communication for students who are unable to produce intelligible verbal speech, and aid in their continued language development, as well as their access to academics and social activities throughout their school day. These devices give our students a voice. A contribution toward this project would have lasting, meaningful impact on the lives of our students. Thank you so very much for your consideration!
