My students each come to me from diverse homes, with various levels of academic ability and experiences. In today's world, given the right resources, technology can help me to personalize learning so that students can work on skills at their level and using various learning styles during class. Students can be engaged by applications on the iPad that make learning easy and fun, while also going at their own pace. These iPads will empower my students to take ownership of their learning! The ways that we can use the applications are limitless and invaluable. Students who struggle with reading will have the technology that they desperately need to listen to stories online, which will instill a lifelong love of reading and motivate them to become better readers. Students will have the time to practice the phonics and comprehension skills at their level so that they can become fluent readers. Mathematicians will unlock their hidden (or not so hidden) love of math as they are able to practice and self-assess various skills. Students will also have access to currently-provided school resources that we cannot access daily without this technology. These iPads are perfect for first graders because they are user-friendly, which will maximize learning time. Through various applications, I will be able to engage students with a wide range of learning needs. Visual, kinesthetic, and auditory learners will all have a chance to thrive because of the vast amount of quality applications for students in most subject areas. Developmentally, students come to first grade at so many different levels, and this will provide a way for me to engage students in learning at their level daily.
