Most of my students are inner city children from highly impacted neighborhoods. They are smart, capable and loving but often lack social skills that will help them to be successful in a school setting. Many of my students are children of young parents who often have problems with getting their daily needs met. Our school historically was a school for African American Children before Integration. Our school has a rich heritage of producing quality young people who have in the past have went on to college and have had successful careers. Presently our school is a neighborhood school that also has a Montessori Magnet Program. The Magnet program has brought more Diversity to our school but many of our neighborhood children especially our girls have problems with self image and friendship skills. The lack of these important skills have led to student disputes which also causes tension in the classroom.
