The majority of the students I support in my classroom have sensory needs: tactile, auditory, and visual. Sensory processing disorders impact students' ability to learn, regulate behavior and emotion, social interaction, and ability to focus and attend. I want to provide my students with a variety of sensory items to support these needs and create a calm, safe learning environment. Providing light filters, fidgets, and bouncy bands help to address my students sensory input needs. Addressing sensory needs will reduce stress and behaviors which will improve my students' ability to focus and to socialize appropriately thus allowing them to successfully access curriculum being taught in my classroom and in the total school environment.
My students are bright, talented, and creative. With the support they need, they will be able to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. I want my students to be able to reach their greatest potential and share their exceptional gifts with the world.
