When students have the opportunity to use microscopes in the classroom, they are immediately engaged in hands on interactive learning. Science becomes real and tangible through the lens of a microscope and not just something that is described in their textbooks. As observed by the botanist David Farichild, "The simplest pocket microscope.... will reveal wonders a thousand times more thrilling than anything Alice saw behind the looking-glass."
I want students to experience the thrill of discovery that takes place when they immerse themselves in a world of organisms that would otherwise be unavailable to them. Having the opportunity to learn through investigation and discovery will benefit my students as they strive to become life long learners.
