We live in Arizona, which happens to be a desert, which also happens to be rather hot and in most schools, the water fountains are archaic and water barely dribbles from the spout. If decent water does come out, it is probably not very cold, probably not even cool. Water is an essential component in a person's body and it helps many functions of the body work to their best ability. Hydration has a major effect on energy levels and brain function. Drinking enough water is a catalyst to maximum performance in the classroom. It can be a struggle to get students to drink water, they would much rather have a sugary drink. So it goes without saying that if schools' water fountains are the bare minimum of a water station for students it is no surprise they are not very motivated to drink from it.
Hurricane Hydration stations to the rescue! With a grant, we can provide water bottle filling stations in our courtyard which will most definitely motivate our students to drink water throughout the day. Not only that, we can reduce our carbon footprint by using refillable water bottles. We will need to fit our current water fountains with the proper bottle filling station. We have one such station in the lobby of our gym, it is time to make them more accessible throughout the entire school. We will consult with our maintenance department to properly order the correct components for our specific units.
