This year I am lucky enough to get to work with 27 fifth grade students directly. We have 6 fifth grade classes for a total 153 students.

I want to give my students a plethora of books to choose from. My personal library unfortunately is made up of older books. The books I’m asking for are a mix of fiction and nonfiction. I want them to understand that both fiction and nonfiction can be great and interesting. For the nonfiction books, students will pick one from the new books I’m asking for for on here. They will then do a project of their choosing (PowerPoint, poster, etc.).
Growing up, I moved around a lot and therefore ended up struggling academically, especially in reading. I was pulled out for extra support and while I now know that was a great opportunity for me to get more individualized help, all I could think was the other kids are going to think I'm dumb. I want my students to actually read the book and not just hold it so it looks like they’re reading. I want them to promote the books to other students. Being given all these new and updated books will give my students what they need….Great Reading Material!
