Most of the people who will read this page do not have a communication impairment. You will read what I wrote and you'll have the option to talk about it with your friends or your spouse or your family member. Everyday we communicate with several people but we don't often stop to appreciate that we have the ability to do so. In fact, most days we're burnt out by the time we crawl into our bed because we have spent the entire day talking. Stop for a second to imagine how you would feel if you couldn't use your voice. How would you get your message across? How would you advocate for yourself? Unfortunately, many of the students I service face this challenge everyday. Their communication impairments leave them without a voice and without a way to advocate for themselves.
It is my goal as a clinician to change this. It's my job to give them a voice.
As I continue to work toward this goal, I have learned of several iPad applications that can be utilized as a communication system. One such application is "Snap + Core First". This application can be utilized with individuals of all ages with speech and language disabilities, including those with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and other intellectual disabilities. Please consider donating toward an iPad which will be able to be utilized during therapeutic sessions with several of my students. This iPad with the accompanying applications will give my students a voice!
I cannot thank you enough should you choose to donate and please do not hesitate to forward this on to anyone who may be interested in helping me achieve this goal.
Thank you!
