This project began with a question to my science students, 鈥淎re water bottles helpful or harmful?鈥 Students in each of my science classes debated their answers to this question, discussed pros and cons, and learned more about how plastic water bottles affect their health and environment. Armed with this information, every class wanted to make a positive change in their school. Their ultimate goal is to reduce the amount of one time use plastic bottles used by students and staff.
In order to solve this real life problem, students are seeking community partnerships to raise money for water bottle filling stations for their school. Students are partnering with other classes such as art, video productions, and student government to help educate the student body and staff regarding the impacts of one time use bottles on our health and environment, and to encourage the use of reusable water bottles and filling stations.
