Students who develop relationships and participate in extra-curricular activities develop a sense of belonging and will stay in school. Our district does not sponsor athletics at the elementary level and I see first hand the impact sports and clubs have on students behavior and academic achievement. Elementary staff work together to form teams and schedule games for different sports to give students the opportunity to participate and explore their potential.
In an era of technology, it's easy for students to "plug in" and not take the opportunity to "unplug," head outside and realize their natural talents and potential. The Running Club will not turn anyone away and will motivate students that are curious or have shown interest in running. The FitBits will allow students to set goals throughout the year and work hard to attain them. Students will be motivated to stay fit and walk, jog, or run in and out of school. Running will impact learning when student's transfer the gained confidence, self-discipline, hard work, and determination learned on the track into the classroom.
Running has more benefits than just health & fitness! It impacts emotional well-being, character, kindness, and community.
