I propose 鈥淕rit & Grin鈥 where those who鈥檝e shown grit can participate in S.T.E.A.M. activities during the last 30 minutes of the week on Friday. To unite our team and increase collaboration, we plan to have one teacher host the classroom where students learn to have grit by completing their work from the week. The other three teachers will teach a unique S.T.E.A.M. activity repeating it for three weeks so that each class can have a turn to do it. Then, we鈥檒l rotate and have three new S.T.E.A.M. activities for students to grow and grin while another teacher hosts the room of students needing to develop grit to finish their work.
I plan to share ideas and encourage teachers on my team to find ways to incorporate science, technology, engineering, art, or math into the activity they choose during our team meetings. These supplies will be used as I teach my class on Friday's with music such as drumsticks for "Drumming Fractions" with student-created rhythms to make whole measures, small characters to engineer flotation devices to "Save the Citizen" where students follow the engineering process to solve the problem of helping their citizen (toy) to survive in a pool, and glue guns, glue and craftsticks to teach about force as they learn to "Build Better Bridges" as students engineer a bridge with glue guns and craft sticks to withstand the greatest force.
