This year, we are consistently and proactively choosing kind—kind words, kind actions—in a nutshell, kindness to all of those around us! We have a great relationship with our fifth grade reading buddies, who are also focusing on choosing kind this year! This year, we are using a social emotional curriculum to help teach and spread empathy. We want each child (49 in all) to read the book Wonder! If this project is funded, we will get together weekly to partner read this book (a fifth grader paired with a second grader). Through the reading of this book, we will address many Common Core standards (fluency, accuracy, comprehension), but just as important, focus on the kindness and compassion of the characters and how we can bring that into the world!
