My students are enrolled in an Aerospace Engineering class. It is very engaging and rigorous, beginning with mankind leaving the ground and continuing through our exploration of other celestial bodies. However, it currently does not include drone technology in the curriculum.
Drones represent real-life, cutting edge Aerospace science and should be a part of our program. This will be very relevant to our students, as well as generate excitement for our STEM classes. Students will learn the basics of how drones work, where and how they are used, and the federal regulations that go along with their use. This will allow students to get hands-on flight experience, along with the opportunity to get their drone pilot certification.
The desire is to see this program go beyond the walls of our high school, and use the drones to aid in our school districts' projects... and possibly create opportunities to use them in conjunction with our local community groups and businesses.
