My students fall into the age range of 16-21 years old. About 20% have IEPs and need accommodations in many aspects of their science studies. My students are not quitters. They have been forgotten by the regular education system but have come back to earn their diploma at an alternative high school. They seek and expect classroom experiences like they would have had at a regular high school, only with a more personal level added. They love to learn through experiences such as labs or inquiry activities. The school is an inner-city school and the students come from low socioeconomic status. It is relatively new and serves 60-90 students during a regular school year. It's mission is to help students that have dropped out of school come back and earn their diploma.
