Our school is located in a impoverished section of Anaheim, California and the students who attend our school do not have access to theatre and music on stage, either to attend or to participate in. A handful of teachers have attempted to created opportunity by organizing plays, musicals, and talent shows.
Last year we were granted the opportunity to participate in Disney Musicals in Schools, and we presented Cinderella. While the students presented a flawless performance, the fact that we didn't have proper lighting was lost on nobody. The cast was disappointed at not having presented the quality performance that proper lighting would have supported. Having spotlights would greatly improve the production of this year's DMIS production of The Lion King. Spotlights would support the students desire to present a professional performance of future DMIS productions as well.
At Walter Elementary we want our students to have authentic experiences, especially in those areas in which they have few to no experience. Receiving these spotlights would surely be a step in the right direction!
