The recorder is an invaluable instrument for applying music reading skills (rhythm, notes, staff, symbols, etc.). Everything seems to just "click" and make sense.
I want to teach recorders to all kids- including special needs kids and the hard to reach kids. Using familiar songs like "Hot Cross Buns", "Old MacDonald", "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and others are the hook I needed to get students playing at home and practicing.
Students work at their own pace. Once they master the song, they "test" on the song to earn belts (white through black). These recorder masters teach other students who need help.
