My students need books. In light of what is going on in our world, I want my teaching to be meaningful and helpful to those students who may be secretly struggling. Those students who are struggling to make friends, struggling to process their feelings, those who are struggling to find purpose and meaning. Though my students are young, I believe that teaching mental health and processing needs to start young. We need to be teaching our students how to properly handle their feelings, big or small. I want to help teach my students that they have a voice and that it matters. I want them to feel confident that they can come from different backgrounds and be successful and feel that they matter. These books, I Am Human: A Book of Empathy, Grumpy Pants and I Am Proud of Myself! will lend themselves to great discussion and activities that help students to deal with problems properly and in a proactive way.
