Students will paint portraits, make prints of portraits, and draw portraits with requested materials. Without Speedball ink, it is very difficult to teach printmaking. Oil pastels allow young artists to achieve effects that are very "painterly" and go well beyond what a student might achieve with crayons, markers, or pencils. These materials not only add to the students knowledge and skill bases, they also impact student enthusiasm. My students desire new sets of oil pastels, and they want to paint. Not only will these students gain from exposure to these new materials, they will also learn new techniques. It is one thing to draw a portrait, and color it in with markers and crayons, however, to experience blending in colors with paint, mixing colors is another level. Its transformative. Some of these materials are items I currently do not have. I want to give my students these experiences, and I hope you will too.
