I want my students to get their hands dirty. I want my students to appreciate nature and become aware of how nature works. I want them to find unconventional methods to grow plants. The winter months are very cold in New England and they miss going outside, so I want to bring the outdoors to our classroom. This is why we would like to have a greenhouse in our STEAM lab.
Unconventional methods of growing plants will elicit curiosity in my students to do research. They will find out how other people are finding new ways to grow plants when certain resources are scarce, such as soil, space, sunlight, etc.
A greenhouse will be a resource that we will be able to use throughout the years, we will be able to give it many different uses, besides growing our own vegetables, we have planned to buy butterfly kits and study their life cycle. We are also planning lessons on ecosystems, and why not teach our kids to cook their own vegetables. We can't wait to start our projects.
