Our school in central Milwaukee is the learning hub to 300 wonderful children in grades 1-8, many of which undeservedly and unjustly experience generational trauma, poverty, and community violence. 98% of these students are considered economically disadvantaged and 28% are students with disabilities. Some of our students, expectedly, have trouble trusting adults in the school setting and really benefit from strong relationship-building and extra support and patience. Our students are so much more than what they have been subjected to. They are smart, strong, funny, passionate, and loving. They love laughter, learning, working together, and feeling respected, valued, and loved. They make all the hard work worth it and they deserve all the good in the world.
