My students are in a classroom that has only been open a year before this school year. We are building our high interest centers and are in need of some items. The students are actively engaged in the dramatic play center.
Dramatic play centers are used to build the students' pretend play skills. Many students have no siblings and do not know how to play with other students. This center is a way to get those students interacting with other students. We use this center to build knowledge of the study we are doing. For example, when learning about the five senses, we could build a doctor's office in the dramatic play center with a doctor's kit. With these materials I will be able to give students the opportunity to be engaged in play. The students can act out scenarios for social development. Students will learn how to communicate with one another in a positive way. The cash register will allow students to use math in a purposeful way. The baby dolls clothes and bottles allow students to show emotions and empathy.
Students find who they are through pretend play. Does your child want to be a princess or a doctor right now? They can pretend play what they want to be when they grow up or who they want to be right now.
