Our second grade class studies our community and the river that runs through it, the Skokomish. With our community partner - the Mason Conservation District, we visit the Skokomish estuary, the Tacoma Hydropower Dam, Lake Cushman, and Vance Creek - a tributary of the river. We take water samples, research aquatic invertebrates, and write informative and opinion pieces.
A student suggested that we should create a 3 dimensional map of the Skokomish river and our community as a collaborative project. What an amazing student generated idea! We discussed the possibilities, and another student of course suggested that we purchase Legos. GENIUS!
