Model, model, model! First-graders learn best when I model a lesson for them. The best way to model a lesson is to project an example onto the whiteboard. We use a projector daily, several times a day. When we work in our Language Arts practice books, I project the workbook onto the board, and students can follow along in their books. However, when I zoom in with my current projector, the screen flips over and over. It is also prone to overheating, and I need to wait until it cools down to use it again. Students love to display their work on the projector and explain their answers. This is a great way for students to practice speaking skills as well as explain math problems. We often take brain breaks with Go Noodle, a website that encourages movement while learning. Students LOVE dancing along to the educational songs in Go Noodle, and we project the computer onto the screen. But we can't do this if we have an overheating projector! My students would love to be able to clearly view each others' work, follow along to my lessons, and enjoy movement breaks throughout the day.
