The Gears and Marble Run require thinking, problem solving, and experimenting with different patterns and paths. These opportunities allow students to try, try again. Since there are no set paths or patterns, students can create different structures for the same purpose, get the gears to turn or get the marbles to the end. This allows practice with solving problems in different ways. The process is the important learning task.
The Brick Building and Architecture Activities require students to follow set paths to achieve the correct results. Once students learn the objectives, basic principles, and foundations of the activities, then they will be able to extend the designs and create new challenges.
