In this unit unusual school year, students in our class are learning both at home AND at school. As a result, classes are held synchronously with students both in person and on Zoom. We are finding that the traditional methods of teaching are not as effective for the students learning at home, and are more difficult for teachers to manage. We need to be able to teach both cohorts of students simultaneously and we need to be creative in order to grant curriculum access to all learners. While some traditional teaching can be translated digitally, newer technology can help defy the digital divide and help make this experience one that is equitable for all students.
Another monitor will help me to show my screen and lessons to all of my learners and still be able to interact with them and see their faces. These items will allow me to screen share and give specific feedback to ensure understanding in real time. As a result, remote students will feel more connected in the classroom and receive the education they deserve.
