My first graders attend a Title 1 school in NYC. They come from diverse backgrounds and are the most humble and hard working children I've ever met despite their families' economic hardships. As budget cuts continue my overcrowded classroom of 32 six year old first graders (and only one teacher) are being forced to spend 15 minutes every day copying down their homework. My school can't afford to supply the classrooms with printer toner and as a result, I can't print out my students homework sheets. We only have 2 copy machines but teachers are not allowed access and in order to get copies made it takes up to 2 weeks.
