Yesterday, I found out that one of my students, who has a dream of being a music teacher, was going to quit band next year because her family cannot afford to keep supplying her with reeds for the bass clarinet and clarinet. I've purchased countless reeds for students over the years, but I realize that I need to have a large supply at school so that students don't feel stressed when their parents are unable to replace broken reeds.
No student should have to quit their favorite class because they can't afford to play! I want to ensure that all of my students have the opportunity to continue playing in high school and beyond.
