I teach a 3rd grade Special Day Class in a high poverty school in Hayward California. My kids are very hard workers, but I see their frustration as they struggle to read. Most of my students can read simple 3 letter, short vowel words, but the majority of books written for their interest level have consonant blends and long vowel words. There are so many rules and vowel combos that my students lose interest quickly. I would like to use this phonics learning center to give a group of students a fun and interactive way to practice and learn how to read the more complex word patterns. Having this listening center in my classroom would also allow me to have a high quality learning session with a small group while other students are using the phonics listening center. After an intensive session, I could switch groups and switch the phonics program to work on an activity with a different phonics skill. There are always many skills to review, skills to practice and new skills to learn.
