My students are creative, outspoken, and passionate about rhythm and music. They have a very strong internal beat, and they love chances to create and improvise. They love to move and dance. They enjoy the opportunity to take ownership of their own education, and teach others.
At the beginning of the year, I put a large poster on the floor that read, "Why do you like music?" Many students wrote that music helps them express themselves, or cope with hard situations in their lives. They come to choir because they can be both the goofy, fun-loving kids that they are, and still express the very deep thoughts and feelings they have through music.
