This project is all about creating a welcoming environment for the students at the beginning of the year. It is based on providing essentials that many students at my school are not equipped with such as: pencils and markers for their dry erase pocket sleeves, all the way to the Kleenex and Lysol wipes to keep the classroom clean.
I have also included balance chairs, balance wedges, and light filters to help create an alternative environment for my students. All of my students have Individualized Education Plans and some of those students need a different environment to learn in than the standard school room.
These materials will get students excited about their learning starting off the beginning of the year in the right direction. It will help them know that I (as well as their community) is invested in their learning.
This project will not only provide essential mathematical décor (place value system bulletin board and word problem icon posters) for the classroom, but also basic classroom supplies that many students do not have available to them. It will allow them to focus on their abilities instead of resources they may lack.
This project will also open a welcoming environment for all students to focus on their learning in a comfortable atmosphere.
