Hello. My name is Ashley Robinson and I am a Title I teacher at West Crawford Elementary in the Connellsville Area School District. This past year has been a challenge for many people especially our elementary students. One of the hardest aspects of the school year was children not being able to work in groups or with partners due to social distancing requirements. Students were stuck in old isolating desks that did not allow for easy collaboration or create an inviting learning space. We are all hoping that next year we can continue school without restrictions, but the reality that things will be totally back to normal is unlikely. Therefore, we want to create a classroom environment that is flexible enough to accommodate anything that comes our way. Having interchangeable desks that can be easily moved around will not only allow for flexible seating but also increased student engagement, as these desk surfaces also double as white boards. Students will be able to create an environment that suits their needs while also meeting the requirements for safe instruction. In the event that Covid restrictions are in place again, we will be able to quickly pull our desks apart and wipe them down as necessary without missing a moment of instructional time or losing our inviting classroom atmosphere. Our dream is to learn in a classroom that provides flexible comfort while supporting collaboration, creativity, and safety. We hope that you will help us to achieve this goal.
