Do you remember watching after school specials or Netflix shows about teenagers, sports, rivaling schools, and the underdogs finally overcoming the odds and dominating at some sort of activity at the end? After watching shows or movies like that, did you ever think "I wish I could go back to that time" or "If it were me, I would have supported those underdogs the whole time"? If so, then this is your chance. My students are living in an era where many don't appreciate the art of choral music and the opportunities for real-life application of choral music aren't usually seen or experienced in social settings of our community.
With your help, my students will be able to interact with other students from around our country and see that they are not alone. For once in their lives, my inner city students will be able to sing choral songs loud and proud without having to explain why it feels great or why they love it, because they will finally be surrounded by like minded individuals who get it. Music has the power to bring light to the darkest of places and I believe that with this opportunity my students will finally be able to shine bright enough to light the way for those that come behind them. Please, help us attend this music festival.
